But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this {man} to reign over us.
For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, {there is} no beauty that we should desire him.
And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.
Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers {did}, so {do} ye.
Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence {him} when they see him.
But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.
Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises {made} unto the fathers:
Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
Whose {are} the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ {came}, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
Men {and} brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.
I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,

Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because {there is} no water, and dieth for thirst.
But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth {it}; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
And they all with one {consent} began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.
But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.
I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children.
And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.
But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.
Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own {home}.
But I said, How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of nations? and I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from me. {from me: Heb. from after me} {a goodly...: Heb. an heritage of glory, or, beauty} {pleasant...: Heb. land of desire}
Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain: {yet} surely my judgment {is} with the LORD, and my work with my God. {my work: or, my reward}
And when we had taken our leave one of another, we took ship; and they returned home again.
For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,
But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose {that} wherein I delighted not.
And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this {man} this wisdom, and {these} mighty works?
