[To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, Maschil.] We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, {what} work thou didst in their days, in the times of old. {Maschil: or, of instruction}
And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service?
And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What {is} this? that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage: {in...: Heb. to morrow}
And thou shalt shew thy son in that day, saying, {This is done} because of that {which} the LORD did unto me when I came forth out of Egypt.
As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it for ever. Selah.
Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons;
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. {Train...: or, Catechise} {in...: Heb. in his way}
One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.

Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
Let your speech {be} alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
Tell ye your children of it, and {let} your children {tell} their children, and their children another generation.
The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I {do} this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.
And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where {be} all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.
Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.
O LORD, {there is} none like thee, neither {is there any} God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:
That this may be a sign among you, {that} when your children ask {their fathers} in time to come, saying, What {mean} ye by these stones? {in time...: Heb. to morrow}

Lo, mine eye hath seen all {this}, mine ear hath heard and understood it.
Thou hast heard, see all this; and will not ye declare {it}? I have shewed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them.
Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid {it}:
For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers:
Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying,
