Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction. {with...: or, for silver}
I the LORD search the heart, {I} try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, {and} according to the fruit of his doings.
Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.
{As} the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so {is} a man to his praise.
I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of mine heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present here, to offer willingly unto thee. {present: Heb. found}
That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.
And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It {is} my people: and they shall say, The LORD {is} my God.
And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he {is} like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap:
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
Blessed {is} the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

And {some} of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make {them} white, {even} to the time of the end: because {it is} yet for a time appointed. {try them: or, try by them}

By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten {son},
But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.
That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep {it}, or not.
And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, {which} when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,
Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold {where} they fine {it}. {vein: or, mine}
Son of man, the house of Israel is to me become dross: all they {are} brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are {even} the dross of silver. {dross of silver: Heb. drosses, etc}
If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:)
The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melteth in vain: for the wicked are not plucked away.
