They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and {some} of you shall they cause to be put to death.
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast {some} of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute {you}, delivering {you} up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake.
But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.
But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Yet if {any man suffer} as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten {them}, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they {have} of the Jews:
Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.
Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and {some} of them they shall slay and persecute:
And they stoned Stephen, calling upon {God}, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and {some} of them ye shall kill and crucify; and {some} of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute {them} from city to city:
And as they went about to kill him, tidings came unto the chief captain of the band, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.
I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, {even} where Satan's seat {is}: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas {was} my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.
But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.
But when the king heard {thereof}, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:
Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth {his} hands to vex certain of the church. {stretched...: or, began}
Blessed are ye, when {men} shall revile you, and persecute {you}, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. {falsely: Gr. lying}
And ye shall be hated of all {men} for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

And ye shall be hated of all {men} for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.

When they heard {that}, they were cut {to the heart}, and took counsel to slay them.

But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew {them} into the marketplace unto the rulers, {marketplace: or, court}
If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto. {there unto: or, to sufferings, or, to persecution}
Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
And when he had apprehended him, he put {him} in prison, and delivered {him} to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people. {Easter: Gr. Passover} {quaternions: a file of four soldiers}
We {are} fools for Christ's sake, but ye {are} wise in Christ; we {are} weak, but ye {are} strong; ye {are} honourable, but we {are} despised.
Many {are} my persecutors and mine enemies; {yet} do I not decline from thy testimonies.
Abide thou with me, fear not: for he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life: but with me thou {shalt be} in safeguard.

Woe is me, my mother, that thou hast borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have neither lent on usury, nor men have lent to me on usury; {yet} every one of them doth curse me.
For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
