Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.
Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.
Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
He hath put forth his hands against such as be at peace with him: he hath broken his covenant. {broken: Heb. profaned}
For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they {have} of the Jews:
And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, {saying},
But thou, LORD, {art most} high for evermore.
And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood, {but} cast him into this pit that {is} in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him; that he might rid him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again.
For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.
And they fetched forth Urijah out of Egypt, and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people. {common...: Heb. sons of the people}
At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus, {tetrarch: or, governor over four provinces}
But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.
But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute {you}, delivering {you} up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake.
And they laid hands on them, and put {them} in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.
And James the {son} of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:
And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and {some} of them they shall slay and persecute:
Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.
