And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed {it} unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all {men} unto me.
It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, {and} hating one another.
The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, {saying}, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. {of...: Heb. from afar} {with lovingkindness...: have I extended lovingkindness unto thee}
How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that {cometh} from God only?
I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat unto them. {take off: Heb. lift up}
Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with {him} through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. {again: or, from above}
But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:

For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;
Why do ye not understand my speech? {even} because ye cannot hear my word.

They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; {and} their hearts, that they cannot understand. {shut: Heb. daubed}
Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? {then} may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil. {accustomed: Heb. taught}
O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: {it is} the gift of God:
And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard {us}: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.

Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.
For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. {believed: or, trusted}
Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, {even} the sure mercies of David.
Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her. {comfortably: or, friendly: Heb. to her heart}
Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.
Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote upon {my} thigh: I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.
And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.
Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,
