And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel their confidence.

They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: they shall go to confusion together {that are} makers of idols.
They shall howl, {saying}, How is it broken down! how hath Moab turned the back with shame! so shall Moab be a derision and a dismaying to all them about him. {back: Heb. neck}
Thy calf, O Samaria, hath cast {thee} off; mine anger is kindled against them: how long {will it be} ere they attain to innocency?
Wilt not thou possess that which Chemosh thy god giveth thee to possess? So whomsoever the LORD our God shall drive out from before us, them will we possess.
Woe be unto thee, O Moab! the people of Chemosh perisheth: for thy sons are taken captives, and thy daughters captives. {captives, and: Heb. in captivity, etc}
Bel boweth down, Nebo stoopeth, their idols were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: your carriages {were} heavy loaden; {they are} a burden to the weary {beast}.

Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that {is} before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon.
Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves {of} gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye {that are} escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god {that} cannot save.
And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed {it}, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. And it shall come to pass, when it is seen that Moab is weary on the high place, that he shall come to his sanctuary to pray; but he shall not prevail.
Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be spoiled, as Shalman spoiled Betharbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon {her} children.
For because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, thou shalt also be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity {with} his priests and his princes together.
And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon {was} fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.
The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Bethaven: for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof {that} rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it. {the priests...: or, Chemarim}
