Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that {is} before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon.

Woe to thee, Moab! thou art undone, O people of Chemosh: he hath given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites.
Wilt not thou possess that which Chemosh thy god giveth thee to possess? So whomsoever the LORD our God shall drive out from before us, them will we possess.
Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.
And the high places that {were} before Jerusalem, which {were} on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had builded for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Zidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon, did the king defile. {the mount...: that is, the mount of Olives}
Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,
For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.
Then shalt thou enquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, {if it be} truth, {and} the thing certain, {that} such abomination is wrought among you;
Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.
And he defiled Topheth, which {is} in the valley of the children of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.
Cursed {be} the man that maketh {any} graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth {it} in {a} secret {place}. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.
And from the time {that} the daily {sacrifice} shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, {there shall be} a thousand two hundred and ninety days. {the abomination: Heb. to set up the abomination} {maketh...: or, astonisheth}
{For} when I had brought them into the land, {for} the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet savour, and poured out there their drink offerings.

And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places:
And he did {that which was} evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which {is} before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, {and there shall be} a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: {decked: Gr. gilded}
And none considereth in his heart, neither {is there} knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten {it}: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree? {considereth...: Heb. setteth to his heart} {the stock...: Heb. that which comes of a tree?}
And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.
And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily {sacrifice}, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate. {maketh...: or, astonisheth}
Again, thou shalt say to the children of Israel, Whosoever {he be} of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that giveth {any} of his seed unto Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones.
And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel their confidence.
And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;
And David went up by the ascent of {mount} Olivet, and wept as he went up, and had his head covered, and he went barefoot: and all the people that {was} with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up. {and wept...: Heb. going up and weeping}
And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.

For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. {Milcom: also called, Molech}

And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the LORD, and served not him.
And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through {the fire} to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I {am} the LORD. {Molech: Gr. Moloch}
Woe be unto thee, O Moab! the people of Chemosh perisheth: for thy sons are taken captives, and thy daughters captives. {captives, and: Heb. in captivity, etc}
And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.
Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and compelled Judah {thereto}.
For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.
For this city hath been to me {as} a provocation of mine anger and of my fury from the day that they built it even unto this day; that I should remove it from before my face, {a provocation...: Heb. for my anger}
And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel their confidence.
And it shall come to pass, when it is seen that Moab is weary on the high place, that he shall come to his sanctuary to pray; but he shall not prevail.
And he defiled Topheth, which {is} in the valley of the children of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.
And it came to pass, that {when} David was come to the top {of the mount}, where he worshipped God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent, and earth upon his head:
For he took away the altars of the strange {gods}, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves: {images: Heb. statues}
And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that {was} before the porch of the LORD. {abominable...: Heb. abominations}
For because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, thou shalt also be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity {with} his priests and his princes together.
