Every man is brutish in {his} knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image {is} falsehood, and {there is} no breath in them. {brutish in his knowledge: or, more brutish than to know}

As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol {is} nothing in the world, and that {there is} none other God but one.

Hath a nation changed {their} gods, which {are} yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for {that which} doth not profit.
Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye {that are} escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god {that} cannot save.
Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries, {nations: Heb. lands}
O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and {things} wherein {there is} no profit.

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness {of any thing} that {is} in heaven above, or that {is} in the earth beneath, or that {is} in the water under the earth:
For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, {and} hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
The idols of the heathen {are} silver and gold, the work of men's hands.

And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
And turn ye not aside: for {then should ye go} after vain {things}, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they {are} vain.

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified {him} not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Truly in vain {is salvation hoped for} from the hills, {and from} the multitude of mountains: truly in the LORD our God {is} the salvation of Israel.
And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face: therefore shall Israel and Ephraim fall in their iniquity; Judah also shall fall with them.
For from Israel {was} it also: the workman made it; therefore it {is} not God: but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.
It shall be also carried unto Assyria {for} a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.
For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because {there was} no shepherd. {idols: Heb. teraphims} {were...: or, answered that, etc}
And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:
Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.
LORD, {when} thy hand is lifted up, they will not see: {but} they shall see, and be ashamed for {their} envy at the people; yea, the fire of thine enemies shall devour them. {at...: or, toward thy people}
