Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you. {heresies: or, sects}
They on the rock {are they}, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.

Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, {Ye must} be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no {such} commandment:
{Certain} men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known; {the children...: or, naughty men}
For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if {it were} possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:
The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger. {be...: Heb. add strength}
For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if {it were} possible, even the elect.
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any {man} pluck them out of my hand.
But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended. {offended: or, stumbled, or, caused to fall into sin}
The words of his mouth {are} iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, {and} to do good.
