The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?
I have overthrown {some} of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.
As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour {cities} thereof, saith the LORD, no man shall abide there, neither shall a son of man dwell in it.
As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour {cities} thereof, saith the LORD; {so} shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell therein.
Therefore {as} I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, {even} the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them.
{And that} the whole land thereof {is} brimstone, and salt, {and} burning, {that} it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:
How is Sheshach taken! and how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! how is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!
Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;
Thou, O king, {art} a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! {how} art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! {O Lucifer: or, O day star}
That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased! {proverb: or, taunting speech} {golden...: or, exactress of gold}

Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. {strange: Gr. other}

But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed {them} all.
The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see.
Then shalt thou say, O LORD, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever. {desolate: Heb. desolations}
And the land shall tremble and sorrow: for every purpose of the LORD shall be performed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without an inhabitant.

She is empty, and void, and waste: and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much pain {is} in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness.
He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;
And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not, {till} the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness: they set up the towers thereof, they raised up the palaces thereof; {and} he brought it to ruin.
Because the palaces shall be forsaken; the multitude of the city shall be left; the forts and towers shall be for dens for ever, a joy of wild asses, a pasture of flocks; {forts...: or, clifts and watchtowers}
And the fortress of the high fort of thy walls shall he bring down, lay low, {and} bring to the ground, {even} to the dust.
At that time Merodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah: for he had heard that he had been sick, and was recovered.
Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.
As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour {cities} thereof, saith the LORD, no man shall abide there, neither shall a son of man dwell in it.
{That} made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; {that} opened not the house of his prisoners? {opened...: or, did not let his prisoners loose homeward?}
And Babylon shall become heaps, a dwellingplace for dragons, an astonishment, and an hissing, without an inhabitant.
At that time Berodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah: for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick. {Berodachbaladan: or, Merodachbaladan}
And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw {good}.
