For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so {are} the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.

For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and {so} that day come upon you unawares.
Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.
In the transgression of an evil man {there is} a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerneth both time and judgment. {shall...: Heb. shall know}
He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; {straightway: Heb. suddenly}

Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.
For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon a snare.
And {that} they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will. {recover...: Gr. awake} {taken...: Gr. taken alive}
But God said unto him, {Thou} fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? {thy...: Gr. do they require thy soul}
But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
And makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, {that have} no ruler over them? {creeping: or, moving}
And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant.
And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.
Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things {which belong} unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: {this shall be} the portion of their cup. {an horrible...: or, a burning tempest}
Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.
Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by {your} good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. {whereas: or, wherein}
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, {and} from the noisome pestilence.
Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin {is} for him? shall {one} take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all?

For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me. {sorrows: or, cords}
Wherefore I perceive that {there is} nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that {is} his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?
I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast striven against the LORD.
And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will plead with him there for his trespass that he hath trespassed against me.
