Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we {are} thy bone and thy flesh.

And Laban said to him, Surely thou {art} my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month. {the space...: Heb. a month of days}

And say ye to Amasa, {Art} thou not of my bone, and of my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab.

For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether {is} better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, {which are} threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I {am} your bone and your flesh. {Whether...: Heb. Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

Thou shalt in any wise set {him} king over thee, whom the LORD thy God shall choose: {one} from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which {is} not thy brother.

And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more {right} in David than ye: why then did ye despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel. {despise...: Heb. set us at light}

Ye {are} my brethren, ye {are} my bones and my flesh: wherefore then are ye the last to bring back the king?

And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, unto Hebron; and they fought against it:

And they gave them the city of Arba the father of Anak, which {city is} Hebron, in the hill {country} of Judah, with the suburbs thereof round about it. {the city...: or, Kirjatharba}

And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the LORD said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron.

And they took up Asahel, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father, which {was in} Bethlehem. And Joab and his men went all night, and they came to Hebron at break of day.

And Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, Whose {is} the land? saying {also}, Make thy league with me, and, behold, my hand {shall be} with thee, to bring about all Israel unto thee.

I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: they are fallen under my feet.

God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.

And Hushai said unto Absalom, Nay; but whom the LORD, and this people, and all the men of Israel, choose, his will I be, and with him will I abide.

And this {is the blessing} of Judah: and he said, Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah, and bring him unto his people: let his hands be sufficient for him; and be thou an help {to him} from his enemies.

And all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king {is} near of kin to us: wherefore then be ye angry for this matter? have we eaten at all of the king's {cost}? or hath he given us any gift?

And Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which {is} Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.

When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.

All nations compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them. {destroy...: Heb. cut them off}

Again, David gathered together all {the} chosen {men} of Israel, thirty thousand.
