For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, {that} his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as {was} the heart of David his father.

And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, {and} wilt keep my statutes and my judgments:
Let your heart therefore be perfect with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.
And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as {did} David his father. {went...: Heb. fulfilled not after}
Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.
Of the nations {concerning} which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: {for} surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.
And he did {that which was} right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined {neither} to the right hand, nor to the left.
And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim; {of...: or, of his father, and of David}
For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.
Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin.
But the high places were not removed: nevertheless Asa's heart was perfect with the LORD all his days.
And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father.
{Concerning} this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:
And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel {was} forty years. {time: Heb. days}
I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done {that which is} good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. {sore: Heb. with a great weeping}
And it shall be, if thou wilt hearken unto all that I command thee, and wilt walk in my ways, and do {that is} right in my sight, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did; that I will be with thee, and build thee a sure house, as I built for David, and will give Israel unto thee.
And give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all {these things}, and to build the palace, {for} the which I have made provision.
And thus did Hezekiah throughout all Judah, and wrought {that which was} good and right and truth before the LORD his God.
And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, when Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the LORD, and the king's house,
And he did {that which was} right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.
And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which {is} the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD. {began...: Heb. built}
And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam {was} forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD did choose out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother's name {was} Naamah an Ammonitess.

Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.
And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father.

If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or {if} I have laid wait at my neighbour's door;

Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.
I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.
Else if ye do in any wise go back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, {even} these that remain among you, and shall make marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you:
And he did {that which was} right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did.

All these men of war, that could keep rank, came with a perfect heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel: and all the rest also of Israel {were} of one heart to make David king.
Moreover I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do my commandments and my judgments, as at this day. {constant: Heb. strong}
But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;
And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.
And go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no hurt.
For {so} it was, that the children of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,
And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.
{But} if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments {and} my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them:

And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshipped him. {as if...: Heb. was it a light thing, etc}
Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, {are} they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
And he did {that which was} right in the sight of the LORD, yet not like David his father: he did according to all things as Joash his father did.
Twenty years old {was} Ahaz when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem, and did not {that which was} right in the sight of the LORD his God, like David his father.
Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out {any of} these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.
