Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
The simple believeth every word: but the prudent {man} looketh well to his going.
For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that {be} in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?
And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am {Christ}; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them. {and the time: or, and, The time}
If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here {is} Christ, or there; believe {it} not.
But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here {is} Christ; or, lo, {he is} there; believe {him} not:
To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another {divers} kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love {to have it} so: and what will ye do in the end thereof? {bear...: or, take into their hands}
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; {approve: or, try} {are...: or, differ}
Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For {it is} a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.
The simple believeth every word: but the prudent {man} looketh well to his going.
Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. {disobedience: or, unbelief}

Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, {beguile...: or, judge against you} {in a...: Gr. being a voluntary in humility}
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, {and} not out of the mouth of the LORD.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things {are} honest, whatsoever things {are} just, whatsoever things {are} pure, whatsoever things {are} lovely, whatsoever things {are} of good report; if {there be} any virtue, and if {there be} any praise, think on these things. {honest: or, venerable}
We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs {come} out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.
But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. {judgeth: or, discerneth} {judged: or, discerned}
He said unto him, I {am} a prophet also as thou {art}; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. {But} he lied unto him.
For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?
And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.
And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. {reprobate: or, of no judgment}
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:
And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.
He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear {them} not, because ye are not of God.
And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name {was} Barjesus:
Cease, my son, to hear the instruction {that causeth} to err from the words of knowledge.
To whom hast thou uttered words? and whose spirit came from thee?
And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:
Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. {corrupt: or, deal deceitfully with} {in Christ: or, of Christ}
And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, {saying}, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people. {walking...: or, walk with the wind, and lie falsely}

And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any {man} deceive you:
Her prophets {are} light {and} treacherous persons: her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law.
Therefore hearken not unto the words of the prophets that speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon: for they prophesy a lie unto you.
And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.
And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being {found} blameless.
