I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

For both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith the LORD.

When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that {is} the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, {but} the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
Behold, I {am} against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.
With whom the LORD had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them:
Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.
Cease, my son, to hear the instruction {that causeth} to err from the words of knowledge.
And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh {unto him};
And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name {was} Barjesus:

So he went back with him, and did eat bread in his house, and drank water.
And he gave a sign the same day, saying, This {is} the sign which the LORD hath spoken; Behold, the altar shall be rent, and the ashes that {are} upon it shall be poured out.
And it shall be, when thou {art} come in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee {for} an inheritance, and possessest it, and dwellest therein;
And the magicians did so with their enchantments, and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt.
