Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. {diversities: or, kinds}
And it shall come to pass afterward, {that} I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.
How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, {doeth he it} by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with {them}, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in {those that are} unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
Follow after charity, and desire spiritual {gifts}, but rather that ye may prophesy.
And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back {part} of the price of the land? {to lie to: or, to deceive}
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. {power...: or, the power of the Holy Ghost coming upon you}
And when Paul had laid {his} hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
Now these {be} the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man {who was} raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,
Charity never faileth: but whether {there be} prophecies, they shall fail; whether {there be} tongues, they shall cease; whether {there be} knowledge, it shall vanish away. {fail: Gr. vanish away}
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, {let us prophesy} according to the proportion of faith;
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, {that} shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become {as} sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.
And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.

Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater {is} he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.
Despise not prophesyings.
And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and {there is} no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, {Do} not interpretations {belong} to God? tell me {them}, I pray you.
Wherefore let him that speaketh in an {unknown} tongue pray that he may interpret.
That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and {in} all knowledge;

And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.
Every man praying or prophesying, having {his} head covered, dishonoureth his head.
