Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:

And it shall come to pass in that day, {that} the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.
But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to {the image of} Baal.
Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, {and} we should have been like unto Gomorrah.
Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, {that} in the place where it was said unto them, Ye {are} not my people, {there} it shall be said unto them, {Ye are} the sons of the living God. {in...: or, instead of that}
Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they {are} not the LORD'S.
Yet will I leave a remnant, that ye may have {some} that shall escape the sword among the nations, when ye shall be scattered through the countries.
And it shall come to pass in that day, {that} the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.
That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which {is} upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; {shore: Heb. lip}
Therefore will he give them up, until the time {that} she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.
The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, {and} Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
Should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? wouldest not thou be angry with us till thou hadst consumed {us}, so that {there should be} no remnant nor escaping?
When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, {there shall be} as the shaking of an olive tree, {and} as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done.
And now for a little space grace hath been {shewed} from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage. {space: Heb. moment} {a nail: or, a pin: that is, a constant and sure abode}

Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.
For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and {one} saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing {is} in it: so will I do for my servants' sakes, that I may not destroy them all.

For thus saith the Lord GOD; The city that went out {by} a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth {by} an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.

Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two {or} three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four {or} five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the LORD God of Israel.
For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end.
For I {am} with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.
Thy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like the gravel thereof; his name should not have been cut off nor destroyed from before me.
And ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the stars of heaven for multitude; because thou wouldest not obey the voice of the LORD thy God.
And it shall come to pass, {that} in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off {and} die; but the third shall be left therein.
For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD {of hosts} shall do this. {they...: Heb. the escaping}
It may be the LORD thy God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God; and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up {thy} prayer for the remnant that are left. {left: Heb. found}
Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.
And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward: {the remnant...: Heb. the escaping of the house of Judah that remaineth}

And the Philistines gathered themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which {is} on the sea shore in multitude: and they came up, and pitched in Michmash, eastward from Bethaven.
And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I {am} the LORD.
