And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
Therefore rejoice, {ye} heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:
And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain. {blood: Heb. bloods}
Therefore, behold, the days come, that I will do judgment upon the graven images of Babylon: and her whole land shall be confounded, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her. {do...: Heb. visit upon}
That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice.
When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, {there is} shouting.
Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and {some} of them they shall slay and persecute:
O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself. {God...: Heb. God of revenges} {shew...: Heb. shine forth}
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner {stone};
The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.
But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.
So let all thine enemies perish, O LORD: but {let} them that love him {be} as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years.
Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.
I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; {and that} with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges upon the enemy.

Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.
He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.
And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;
And he said unto me, These sayings {are} faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.
The violence done to me and to my flesh {be} upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and my blood upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say. {The violence...: Heb. My violence} {flesh: or, remainder} {inhabitant: Heb. inhabitress}
So shall the congregation of the people compass thee about: for their sakes therefore return thou on high.

Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of thy judgments, O LORD.
When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.
And the people shall take them, and bring them to their place: and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the LORD for servants and handmaids: and they shall take them captives, whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors. {whose...: Heb. that had taken them captives}
For {it is} the day of the LORD'S vengeance, {and} the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion.
But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.
O LORD, thou knowest: remember me, and visit me, and revenge me of my persecutors; take me not away in thy longsuffering: know that for thy sake I have suffered rebuke.
But, O LORD of hosts, that triest the righteous, {and} seest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I opened my cause.
And they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but thou shalt be desolate for ever, saith the LORD. {desolate...: Heb. everlasting desolations}

For the violence of Lebanon shall cover thee, and the spoil of beasts, {which} made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works:
And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. {life: Gr. breath}
And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

The whole earth is at rest, {and} is quiet: they break forth into singing.
And they brought the head of Ishbosheth unto David to Hebron, and said to the king, Behold the head of Ishbosheth the son of Saul thine enemy, which sought thy life; and the LORD hath avenged my lord the king this day of Saul, and of his seed.
And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an habitation of dragons, {and} a court for owls. {owls: or, ostriches: Heb. daughters of the owl}
And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
Go ye forth of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter it {even} to the end of the earth; say ye, The LORD hath redeemed his servant Jacob.
The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:
Be thou exalted, LORD, in thine own strength: {so} will we sing and praise thy power.
And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
Rejoice, O ye nations, {with} his people: for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful unto his land, {and} to his people. {Rejoice...: or, Praise his people, ye nations: or, Sing ye}
For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men's blood, and {for} the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein. {blood: Heb. bloods}
And when it was day, he called {unto him} his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;
The righteous see {it}, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.
Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon {it}, and require {it}.
But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? {Is} God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man)
And all the people of the land rejoiced: and the city was quiet, after that they had slain Athaliah with the sword.
Seeing {it is} a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;
Praise ye the LORD for the avenging of Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves.
Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight.
