Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. {strength: Heb. rock}
For the word of God {is} quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and {is} a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit. {givest: Heb. sendest}
Who {is} he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.
A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
Because they have committed villany in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours' wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and {am} a witness, saith the LORD.
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion {is} vain.
Your words have been stout against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, What have we spoken {so much} against thee?
Wherefore I abhor {myself}, and repent in dust and ashes.
For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same {is} a perfect man, {and} able also to bridle the whole body.
How long wilt thou speak these {things}? and {how long shall} the words of thy mouth {be like} a strong wind?
Who {is} this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
And it shall come to pass at that time, {that} I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil. {settled: Heb. curded, or, thickened}
Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They {are} entangled in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in.
Shall it be told him that I speak? if a man speak, surely he shall be swallowed up.
I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.
Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard {it}, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.
