The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. Selah.
I will make thee perpetual desolations, and thy cities shall not return: and ye shall know that I {am} the LORD.
Also Edom shall be a desolation: every one that goeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues thereof.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because that Edom hath dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and hath greatly offended, and revenged himself upon them; {by...: Heb. by revenging revengement}

We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us: for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.

His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish.

We are confounded, because we have heard reproach: shame hath covered our faces: for strangers are come into the sanctuaries of the LORD'S house.
Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle.

And I am very sore displeased with the heathen {that are} at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.
Thus saith the LORD against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit; Behold, I will pluck them out of their land, and pluck out the house of Judah from among them.

Thou shalt not abhor an Edomite; for he {is} thy brother: thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou wast a stranger in his land.
