Then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest, and he shall bring her offering for her, the tenth {part} of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put frankincense thereon; for it {is} an offering of jealousy, an offering of memorial, bringing iniquity to remembrance.
I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last {to be} more than the first.
And the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel; and of the dust that is in the floor of the tabernacle the priest shall take, and put {it} into the water:
Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that {it is} an evil {thing} and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear {is} not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
And the leper in whom the plague {is}, his clothes shall be rent, and his head bare, and he shall put a covering upon his upper lip, and shall cry, Unclean, unclean.
And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart {is} snares and nets, {and} her hands {as} bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her. {whoso...: Heb. he that is good before God}
For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
And this water that causeth the curse shall go into thy bowels, to make {thy} belly to swell, and {thy} thigh to rot: And the woman shall say, Amen, amen.
Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul {delivered it} from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. {for peace...: or, on my peace came great bitterness} {thou hast in...: Heb. thou hast loved my soul from the pit}
For the word of God {is} quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and {is} a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
And he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water that causeth the curse: and the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, {and become} bitter.
But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.
Marriage {is} honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go {and} serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood; {gall: or, a poisonous herb: Heb. rosh}
But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for {her} hair is given her for a covering. {covering: or, veil}
Then the priest shall take the jealousy offering out of the woman's hand, and shall wave the offering before the LORD, and offer it upon the altar:
Why do we sit still? assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the defenced cities, and let us be silent there: for the LORD our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against the LORD. {gall: or, poison}
And he shall bring it to Aaron's sons the priests: and he shall take thereout his handful of the flour thereof, and of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof; and the priest shall burn the memorial of it upon the altar, {to be} an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD:
And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons, Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people: but let your brethren, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which the LORD hath kindled.
For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
