In those days saw I in Judah {some} treading wine presses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all {manner of} burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day: and I testified {against them} in the day wherein they sold victuals.
Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day {is} the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work {therein}: it {is} the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.
And six years thou shalt sow thy land, and shalt gather in the fruits thereof:
But the seventh day {is} the sabbath of the LORD thy God: {in it} thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that {is} within thy gates:
Thus saith the LORD; Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring {it} in by the gates of Jerusalem;
Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.
If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, {from} doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking {thine own} words:
And {this} shall be a statute for ever unto you: {that} in the seventh month, on the tenth {day} of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, {whether it be} one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you:
And in the first day {there shall be} an holy convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save {that} which every man must eat, that only may be done of you. {man: Heb. soul}
To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: {for} as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.
If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:
And ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day, {that} it may be an holy convocation unto you: ye shall do no servile work {therein: it shall be} a statute for ever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.

And there was a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews.
And the LORD spake unto Moses in mount Sinai, saying,
Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath {days}: {in meat...: or, for eating and drinking} {respect: or, part}
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment. {rejoiceth: or, glorieth}
