Whereas Edom saith, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath indignation for ever.

And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom by the hand of my people Israel: and they shall do in Edom according to mine anger and according to my fury; and they shall know my vengeance, saith the Lord GOD.
I will make thee perpetual desolations, and thy cities shall not return: and ye shall know that I {am} the LORD.

And there is hope in thine end, saith the LORD, that thy children shall come again to their own border.
Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked.
{There is} no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.
Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase {it}, rase {it, even} to the foundation thereof. {Rase it: Heb. Make bare}
It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.
{He is} wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened {himself} against him, and hath prospered?
And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.
Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again: he shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening. {up: Heb. upon}
Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand {is} stretched out still.
When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth {his} face, who then can behold him? whether {it be done} against a nation, or against a man only:
Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: {be they} better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?
He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change {them into} cedars.
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away {the punishment} thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever: {did cast...: Heb. corrupted his compassions}
