And if any one of the common people sin through ignorance, while he doeth {somewhat against} any of the commandments of the LORD {concerning things} which ought not to be done, and be guilty; {any one: Heb. any soul} {common...: Heb. people of the land}
And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.
And unto the children of Israel thou shalt speak, saying, Take ye a kid of the goats for a sin offering; and a calf and a lamb, {both} of the first year, without blemish, for a burnt offering;
Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto {his} brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things {pertaining} to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put {him} to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see {his} seed, he shall prolong {his} days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. {thou...: or, his soul shall make an offering}
For he hath made him {to be} sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption {for us}.
For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things {pertaining} to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:
And Moses diligently sought the goat of the sin offering, and, behold, it was burnt: and he was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar, the sons of Aaron {which were} left {alive}, saying,
And if his offering {be} a goat, then he shall offer it before the LORD.
