Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, {though} thou be little among the thousands of Judah, {yet} out of thee shall he come forth unto me {that is} to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth {have been} from of old, from everlasting. {everlasting: Heb. the days of eternity}
And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.
The LORD hath sworn {in} truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne. {body: Heb. belly}
Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, {that is} cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD {is} with him. {matters: or, speech}
Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.
And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all {thy} children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither. {down: Heb. round}
Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.
And Saul said to him, Whose son {art} thou, {thou} young man? And David answered, I {am} the son of thy servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.
And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably? {coming: Heb. meeting}

Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, {Thou} Son of David, have mercy on us.

And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son?
If thy father at all miss me, then say, David earnestly asked {leave} of me that he might run to Bethlehem his city: for {there is} a yearly sacrifice there for all the family. {sacrifice: or, feast}

Of this man's seed hath God according to {his} promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:
And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the Son of David?
Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? {to envy: or, enviously?}
