For then the king of Babylon's army besieged Jerusalem: and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which {was} in the king of Judah's house.
Moreover the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying,
Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I {am} more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.
For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. {in bonds: or, in a chain} {therein: or, thereof}
Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.
So Jeremiah abode in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken: and he was {there} when Jerusalem was taken.
Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that {were} in the high gate of Benjamin, which {was} by the house of the LORD.
Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, {even} unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that {was} in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon {there was} no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire. {of Hammelech: or, of the king}
For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,
And others had trial of {cruel} mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:
And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which {were} upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land {is} before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go. {were...: or, are upon thine hand} {I will...: Heb. Afterward I came unto the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabeel, who {was} shut up; and he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple: for they will come to slay thee; yea, in the night will they come to slay thee.
But there remained two {of the} men in the camp, the name of the one {was} Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they {were} of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.
But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the LORD hid them. {of Hammelech: or, of the king}
And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that {was} upon him, and gave {it} unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, {that}, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.
