When I shall bring thee down with them that descend into the pit, with the people of old time, and shall set thee in the low parts of the earth, in places desolate of old, with them that go down to the pit, that thou be not inhabited; and I shall set glory in the land of the living;

And they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and say to thee, How art thou destroyed, {that wast} inhabited of seafaring men, the renowned city, which wast strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, which cause their terror {to be} on all that haunt it! {of...: Heb. of the seas}

{I had fainted}, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

There {is} Elam and all her multitude round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which are gone down uncircumcised into the nether parts of the earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit.

But I {was} like a lamb {or} an ox {that} is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, {saying}, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered. {the tree...: Heb. the stalk with his bread}

Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

I said, I shall not see the LORD, {even} the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.

Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.

I, {even} I, {am} he that comforteth you: who {art} thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man {that} shall die, and of the son of man {which} shall be made {as} grass;

I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.

For I have caused my terror in the land of the living: and he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised with {them that are} slain with the sword, {even} Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD.

I cried unto thee, O LORD: I said, Thou {art} my refuge {and} my portion in the land of the living.

Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

And the carcase of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel; {so} that they shall not say, This {is} Jezebel.

But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, {and as} the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet.

For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before them that seek their life: and I will bring evil upon them, {even} my fierce anger, saith the LORD; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them:

There {is} Meshech, Tubal, and all her multitude: her graves {are} round about him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though they caused their terror in the land of the living.
