And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not {he}. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of {his} feet I am not worthy to loose.

I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and {with} fire:
And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.
John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not; {in expectation: or, in suspense} {mused: or, reasoned, or, debated}
And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.
But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished {my} course, I have kept the faith:
John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. {receive: or, take unto himself}
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. {taketh away: or, beareth}
And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
But when Herod heard {thereof}, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.

He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished {my} course, I have kept the faith:
And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?
For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen {it}, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.
And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?
