Then Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us see one another in the face.
And Abner said to Joab, Let the young men now arise, and play before us. And Joab said, Let them arise.
But Amaziah would not hear. Therefore Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Bethshemesh, which {belongeth} to Judah.
Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised {is} wisdom.
{Every} purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.
A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.
The beginning of strife {is as} when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.
Go not forth hastily to strive, lest {thou know not} what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.

And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, and his might wherewith he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, {are} they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
In his days Pharaohnechoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates: and king Josiah went against him; and he slew him at Megiddo, when he had seen him.
And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out.
Then said Zebul unto him, Where {is} now thy mouth, wherewith thou saidst, Who {is} Abimelech, that we should serve him? {is} not this the people that thou hast despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them.
