Then came Shemaiah the prophet to Rehoboam, and {to} the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Ye have forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.

But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
Moreover the children of Ammon passed over Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sore distressed.
And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he forsook the law of the LORD, and all Israel with him.
And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that {it is} an evil {thing} and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear {is} not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.
And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these {things} unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land {that is} not yours.
And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask thee, saying, What {is} the burden of the LORD? thou shalt then say unto them, What burden? I will even forsake you, saith the LORD.
But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
Thy way and thy doings have procured these {things} unto thee; this {is} thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart.
And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies {are} great: and let me not fall into the hand of man. {are great: or, are many}
Now the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, {are} they not written in the book of Shemaiah the prophet, and of Iddo the seer concerning genealogies? And {there were} wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually. {book: Heb. words}

But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend. {and make...: or, so shalt thou prevail with thy friend}
