So David and his men rose up early to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines. And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
And Saul smote the Amalekites from Havilah {until} thou comest to Shur, that {is} over against Egypt.
And the LORD said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.
And David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gezrites, and the Amalekites: for those {nations were} of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt. {Gezrites: or, Gerzites}

It came even to pass on the third day, that, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his clothes rent, and earth upon his head: and {so} it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and did obeisance.
Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this {for} a memorial in a book, and rehearse {it} in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.
And Ziklag, and Madmannah, and Sansannah,
We made an invasion {upon} the south of the Cherethites, and upon {the coast} which {belongeth} to Judah, and upon the south of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire.
And his men that {were} with him did David bring up, every man with his household: and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.
Then they took all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that {are} in Gibeon.
And he said unto me, Who {art} thou? And I answered him, I {am} an Amalekite.
Wherefore now rise up early in the morning with thy master's servants that are come with thee: and as soon as ye be up early in the morning, and have light, depart.
And at Bethuel, and at Hormah, and at Ziklag,
And they helped David against the band {of the rovers}: for they {were} all mighty men of valour, and were captains in the host. {against...: or, with a band}

Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: wherefore Ziklag pertaineth unto the kings of Judah unto this day.
The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.
And when he looked on Amalek, he took up his parable, and said, Amalek {was} the first of the nations; but his latter end {shall be} that he perish for ever. {the nations: the nations that warred against Israel} {that...: or, even to destruction}
And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire.
Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee {for} an inheritance to possess it, {that} thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget {it}.

And they returned, and came to Enmishpat, which {is} Kadesh, and smote all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazezontamar.
