And the porters {were}, Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brethren: Shallum {was} the chief;
And the sons of Eliab; Nemuel, and Dathan, and Abiram. This {is that} Dathan and Abiram, {which were} famous in the congregation, who strove against Moses and against Aaron in the company of Korah, when they strove against the LORD:
The son of Tahath, the son of Assir, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah,
[To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, Maschil.] We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, {what} work thou didst in their days, in the times of old. {Maschil: or, of instruction}
And with them their brethren of the second {degree}, Zechariah, Ben, and Jaaziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, Eliab, and Benaiah, and Maaseiah, and Mattithiah, and Elipheleh, and Mikneiah, and Obededom, and Jeiel, the porters.
And Berechiah and Elkanah {were} doorkeepers for the ark.

And he set the porters at the gates of the house of the LORD, that none {which was} unclean in any thing should enter in.
And the porters {were}, Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brethren: Shallum {was} the chief;
Yet they shall be ministers in my sanctuary, {having} charge at the gates of the house, and ministering to the house: they shall slay the burnt offering and the sacrifice for the people, and they shall stand before them to minister unto them.
And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the grove, and for all the host of heaven: and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto Bethel.
And his brother Asaph, who stood on his right hand, {even} Asaph the son of Berachiah, the son of Shimea,
All these {which were} chosen to be porters in the gates {were} two hundred and twelve. These were reckoned by their genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer did ordain in their set office. {did...: Heb. founded} {set...: or, trust}
Moreover four thousand {were} porters; and four thousand praised the LORD with the instruments which I made, {said David}, to praise {therewith}.
And these {are} the names of the sons of Gershon by their families; Libni, and Shimei.

And David divided them into courses among the sons of Levi, {namely}, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. {courses: Heb. divisions}
And the sons of Kohath by their families; Amram, and Izehar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
And Meshelemiah had sons and brethren, strong men, eighteen.
