These {were} the renowned of the congregation, princes of the tribes of their fathers, heads of thousands in Israel.

And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place {such} over them, {to be} rulers of thousands, {and} rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:
That the princes of Israel, heads of the house of their fathers, who {were} the princes of the tribes, and were over them that were numbered, offered: {and were: Heb. who stood}
And the sons of Eliab; Nemuel, and Dathan, and Abiram. This {is that} Dathan and Abiram, {which were} famous in the congregation, who strove against Moses and against Aaron in the company of Korah, when they strove against the LORD:
And with you there shall be a man of every tribe; every one head of the house of his fathers.
Furthermore over the tribes of Israel: the ruler of the Reubenites {was} Eliezer the son of Zichri: of the Simeonites, Shephatiah the son of Maachah:
And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:
And on the east side toward the rising of the sun shall they of the standard of the camp of Judah pitch throughout their armies: and Nahshon the son of Amminadab {shall be} captain of the children of Judah.
In the first {place} went the standard of the camp of the children of Judah according to their armies: and over his host {was} Nahshon the son of Amminadab.
See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout all the thousands of Judah.
Then Saul said unto his servants that stood about him, Hear now, ye Benjamites; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, {and} make you all captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds;
And the princes offered for dedicating of the altar in the day that it was anointed, even the princes offered their offering before the altar.

So I took the chief of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes. {made: Heb. gave}
But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, {though} thou be little among the thousands of Judah, {yet} out of thee shall he come forth unto me {that is} to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth {have been} from of old, from everlasting. {everlasting: Heb. the days of eternity}
And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which {is} upon thee, and will put {it} upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear {it} not thyself alone.
