And they found written in the law which the LORD had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month: {by: Heb. by the hand of}
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of {them}, and embraced {them}, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. {in faith: Gr. according to faith}
And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth. {Succoth: that is, Booths}
And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel abiding {in his tents} according to their tribes; and the spirit of God came upon him.
How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, {and} thy tabernacles, O Israel!
But we have dwelt in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.
For we know that if our earthly house of {this} tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
But they said, We will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, {neither ye}, nor your sons for ever:
Neither shall ye build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have {any}: but all your days ye shall dwell in tents; that ye may live many days in the land where ye {be} strangers.
