Or hath God assayed to go {and} take him a nation from the midst of {another} nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness {to them}, but it gave light by night {to these}: so that the one came not near the other all the night.
And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD.
Moreover thou leddest them in the day by a cloudy pillar; and in the night by a pillar of fire, to give them light in the way wherein they should go.
When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work.
And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses. {work: Heb. hand}
And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. {overthrew: Heb. shook off}
And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land;
For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people {that were} men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.
And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness. {wander: or, feed}
So ye abode in Kadesh many days, according unto the days that ye abode {there}.
But with whom was he grieved forty years? {was it} not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it.
And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD.
He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.
They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.
And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say, The LORD will be magnified from the border of Israel. {from: or, upon: Heb. from upon}
