Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying,

And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses.
{But} Joshua the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.
And he gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge, and said, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I sware unto them: and I will be with thee.
The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee, {and} he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: {and} Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said.
And Moses rose up, and his minister Joshua: and Moses went up into the mount of God.
But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, Whence {comest thou}, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went no whither. {no whither: Heb. not hither or thither}
So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.

And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the captivity made booths, and sat under the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the son of Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great gladness.

Because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed his covenant, {and} all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear {them}, nor do {them}.
But Aaron and his sons offered upon the altar of the burnt offering, and on the altar of incense, {and were appointed} for all the work of the {place} most holy, and to make an atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.
{But} Joshua the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.
And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all {men}, apt to teach, patient, {patient: or, forbearing}
