And Heshbon shall cry, and Elealeh: their voice shall be heard {even} unto Jahaz: therefore the armed soldiers of Moab shall cry out; his life shall be grievous unto him.

From the cry of Heshbon {even} unto Elealeh, {and even} unto Jahaz, have they uttered their voice, from Zoar {even} unto Horonaim, {as} an heifer of three years old: for the waters also of Nimrim shall be desolate. {desolate: Heb. desolations}
Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for {it is} better for me to die than to live.
And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
So that my soul chooseth strangling, {and} death rather than my life. {life: Heb. bones}

And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.

And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.
Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labour and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?
And Jahazah, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath,
But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his coast: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter {in} soul;
The great day of the LORD {is} near, {it is} near, and hasteth greatly, {even} the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.

And their coast was from Aroer, that {is} on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that {is} in the midst of the river, and all the plain by Medeba;
And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more.
Therefore I will bewail with the weeping of Jazer the vine of Sibmah: I will water thee with my tears, O Heshbon, and Elealeh: for the shouting for thy summer fruits and for thy harvest is fallen. {the shouting...: or, the alarm is fallen upon, etc}
When Mordecai perceived all that was done, Mordecai rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and cried with a loud and a bitter cry;

And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the villages thereof. {villages: Heb. daughters}
