For I will rise up against them, saith the LORD of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith the LORD.

Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.
The memory of the just {is} blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.
Therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam him that pisseth against the wall, {and} him that is shut up and left in Israel, and will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as a man taketh away dung, till it be all gone.
His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off.
Come against her from the utmost border, open her storehouses: cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly: let nothing of her be left. {from...: Heb. from the end} {cast...: or, tread her}
And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, {with} a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.
Against {him that} bendeth let the archer bend his bow, and against {him that} lifteth himself up in his brigandine: and spare ye not her young men; destroy ye utterly all her host.
They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, {even} the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.
Then shalt thou say, O LORD, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever. {desolate: Heb. desolations}
Because the spoiler is come upon her, {even} upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, every one of their bows is broken: for the LORD God of recompences shall surely requite.
Thus saith the LORD, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their nobles, and the Chaldeans, whose cry {is} in the ships. {nobles: Heb. bars}
But these two {things} shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, {and} for the great abundance of thine enchantments.
O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end: and thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them. {O thou...: or, The destructions of the enemy are come to a perpetual end: and their cities hast thou destroyed, etc}
The LORD hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation: for this {is} the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans.
Then shalt thou say, O LORD, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever. {desolate: Heb. desolations}
But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God. {piety: or, kindness}

Thy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like the gravel thereof; his name should not have been cut off nor destroyed from before me.
And unto Absalom there were born three sons, and one daughter, whose name {was} Tamar: she was a woman of a fair countenance.
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD. {rebellion: Heb. revolt}
For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove, they shall depart, both man and beast.
Your mother shall be sore confounded; she that bare you shall be ashamed: behold, the hindermost of the nations {shall be} a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.
And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the very time of his land come: and then many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of him.
To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD.
