If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying. {for...: or, to his destruction: or, to cause him to die}
Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, {so} the LORD thy God chasteneth thee.
He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left {to himself} bringeth his mother to shame.
Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.
Withhold not correction from the child: for {if} thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.
Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne {chastisement}, I will not offend {any more}:
I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:

Confirming the souls of the disciples, {and} exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
