And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, {there is} none so discreet and wise as thou {art}:

Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity. {a lengthening...: or, an healing of thine error}

Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you. {Take: Heb. Give}

Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:

For out of prison he cometh to reign; whereas also {he that is} born in his kingdom becometh poor.

If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom {is} profitable to direct.

To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom.

And the fame thereof was heard in Pharaoh's house, saying, Joseph's brethren are come: and it pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants. {pleased...: Heb. was good in the eyes of Pharaoh}

The words of wise {men are} heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.
