Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; {As} I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, even it will I recompense upon his own head.
And he did {that which was} evil in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that Jehoiakim had done.
And he also rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God: but he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart from turning unto the LORD God of Israel.
Whiles they see vanity unto thee, whiles they divine a lie unto thee, to bring thee upon the necks of {them that are} slain, of the wicked, whose day is come, when their iniquity {shall have} an end.
O thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, {and} the measure of thy covetousness.
And as the evil figs, which cannot be eaten, they are so evil; surely thus saith the LORD, So will I give Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the residue of Jerusalem, that remain in this land, and them that dwell in the land of Egypt:
For the day {is} near, even the day of the LORD {is} near, a cloudy day; it shall be the time of the heathen.
An end is come, the end is come: it watcheth for thee; behold, it is come. {watcheth for: Heb. awaketh against}
Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.
Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.
The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.

Then they took the king, and carried him up unto the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath; where he gave judgment upon him.
The king shall mourn, and the prince shall be clothed with desolation, and the hands of the people of the land shall be troubled: I will do unto them after their way, and according to their deserts will I judge them; and they shall know that I {am} the LORD. {according...: Heb. with their judgments}
Say thou unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; This burden {concerneth} the prince in Jerusalem, and all the house of Israel that {are} among them.
But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such {things}? or shall he break the covenant, and be delivered?

Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

And afterward, saith the LORD, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their life: and he shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have mercy.
And Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes;
And thou shalt not escape out of his hand, but shalt surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and thine eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with thee mouth to mouth, and thou shalt go to Babylon. {he shall...: Heb. his mouth shall speak to thy mouth}
But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah. {by...: Heb. by the hand of the prophet}
Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there {any} word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.
