Thus I fell down before the LORD forty days and forty nights, as I fell down {at the first}; because the LORD had said he would destroy you.

And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
And I looked, and, behold, ye had sinned against the LORD your God, {and} had made you a molten calf: ye had turned aside quickly out of the way which the LORD had commanded you.
And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments. {commandments: Heb. words}
Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy {them}.
And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
And I stayed in the mount, according to the first time, forty days and forty nights; and the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also, {and} the LORD would not destroy thee. {first...: or, former days}
And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.
Wherefore then {serveth} the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; {and it was} ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
And be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning unto mount Sinai, and present thyself there to me in the top of the mount.
And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.
Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.
{And} lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and {that} I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.
Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall {a child} be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?
