And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite. {Araunah: also called, Ornan}

Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they {were} all dead corpses.

And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that {was} in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle. {dungeon: Heb. house of the pit}

For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

The stouthearted are spoiled, they have slept their sleep: and none of the men of might have found their hands.

Now therefore advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.

Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain.

For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite {you}.

Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest stealeth him away in the night.

Desire not the night, when people are cut off in their place.

Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more. {Though...: or, If they would have been at peace, so should they have been many, and so should they have been shorn, and he should have passed away} {cut down: Heb. shorn}

The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and {there is} a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and {there is} none end of {their} corpses; they stumble upon their corpses: {the bright...: Heb. the flame of the sword, and the lightning of the spear}

And it came to pass about ten days {after}, that the LORD smote Nabal, that he died.
