In the days of Pekah king of Israel came Tiglathpileser king of Assyria, and took Ijon, and Abelbethmaachah, and Janoah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali, and carried them captive to Assyria.

And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, and brought them unto Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, unto this day.
In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor {by} the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
And they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjatharba, which {is} Hebron, in the mountain of Judah. {appointed: Heb. sanctified}
So Benhadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of the hosts which he had against the cities of Israel, and smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abelbethmaachah, and all Cinneroth, with all the land of Naphtali.
So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglathpileser king of Assyria, saying, I {am} thy servant and thy son: come up, and save me out of the hand of the king of Syria, and out of the hand of the king of Israel, which rise up against me.
And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor had heard {those things}, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,
And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host {was} Sisera, which dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles.
Beerah his son, whom Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria carried away {captive}: he {was} prince of the Reubenites. {Tilgathpilneser: also called, Tiglathpileser}
And Kedesh, and Edrei, and Enhazor,
And he went through all the tribes of Israel unto Abel, and to Bethmaachah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him.
And Benhadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abelmaim, and all the store cities of Naphtali. {his: Heb. which were his}
And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, {even} wood and stone.
I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto ye go over Jordan to possess it; ye shall not prolong {your} days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.
And Joshua at that time turned back, and took Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor beforetime was the head of all those kingdoms.

Arise ye, and depart; for this {is} not {your} rest: because it is polluted, it shall destroy {you}, even with a sore destruction.
So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglathpileser king of Assyria, saying, I {am} thy servant and thy son: come up, and save me out of the hand of the king of Syria, and out of the hand of the king of Israel, which rise up against me.
Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries, {nations: Heb. lands}
And Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria came unto him, and distressed him, but strengthened him not.
So the posts went with the letters from the king and his princes throughout all Israel and Judah, and according to the commandment of the king, saying, Ye children of Israel, turn again unto the LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and he will return to the remnant of you, that are escaped out of the hand of the kings of Assyria. {from: Heb. from the hand}
For the LORD shall smite Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water, and he shall root up Israel out of this good land, which he gave to their fathers, and shall scatter them beyond the river, because they have made their groves, provoking the LORD to anger.
And say unto him, Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah. {neither...: Heb. let not thy heart be tender}

And it shall come to pass at that day, that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.
Ephraim {is} oppressed {and} broken in judgment, because he willingly walked after the commandment.
For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up. {stalk: or, standing corn}
And the sons of Naphtali; Jahzeel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shillem.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; An adversary {there shall be} even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be spoiled.
The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken upon her land; {there is} none to raise her up.
Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the LORD, whose name {is} The God of hosts.

For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward.

Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of {other} lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of mine hand?
Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who keepest covenant and mercy, let not all the trouble seem little before thee, that hath come upon us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all thy people, since the time of the kings of Assyria unto this day. {trouble: Heb. weariness} {that...: Heb. that hath found us}
For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.

Therefore the LORD shall set up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and join his enemies together; {join: Heb. mingle}
For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done {it}, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant {man}: {a valiant...: or, many people}
Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty {is} a fading flower, which {are} on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine! {overcome: Heb. broken}
Israel {is} a scattered sheep; the lions have driven {him} away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones.
And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver {us} from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders. {waste: Heb. eat up} {in the...: or, with her own naked swords}
Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns.
Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.
