If this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, {even} unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they shall kill me, and go again to Rehoboam king of Judah.

In the six and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and built Ramah, to the intent that he might let none go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

And it came to pass, when Baasha heard {thereof}, that he left off building of Ramah, and dwelt in Tirzah.

Thus saith the LORD; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, {and} bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they {were} not.

Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.

And Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him; and Baasha smote him at Gibbethon, which {belonged} to the Philistines; for Nadab and all Israel laid siege to Gibbethon.

And the priests and the Levites that {were} in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts. {resorted...: Heb. presented themselves to him}

Now the pit wherein Ishmael had cast all the dead bodies of the men, whom he had slain because of Gedaliah, {was} it which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel: {and} Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with {them that were} slain. {because...: or, near Gedaliah: Heb. by the hand, or, by the side of Gedaliah}

Then Jeroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and went out from thence, and built Penuel.

And it came to pass, when Baasha heard {thereof}, that he left off building of Ramah, and dwelt in Tirzah.
