Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: {As for me}, I {had} in mine heart to build an house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the footstool of our God, and had made ready for the building:

Thus saith the LORD, The heaven {is} my throne, and the earth {is} my footstool: where {is} the house that ye build unto me? and where {is} the place of my rest?
Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD {remaineth} under curtains.
How hath the Lord covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger, {and} cast down from heaven unto the earth the beauty of Israel, and remembered not his footstool in the day of his anger!
Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the LORD an hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver; and of brass and iron without weight; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone have I prepared; and thou mayest add thereto. {trouble: or, poverty}
And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadarezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.
That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, {to} the right hand, or {to} the left: to the end that he may prolong {his} days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.
And {one} told Jacob, and said, Behold, thy son Joseph cometh unto thee: and Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed.
And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
Heaven {is} my throne, and earth {is} my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what {is} the place of my rest?
And moreover the king's servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, God make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne. And the king bowed himself upon the bed.
And these {are they} whom David set over the service of song in the house of the LORD, after that the ark had rest.
I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.
And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and the LORD had given him rest round about from all his enemies;
And David commanded to gather together the strangers that {were} in the land of Israel; and he set masons to hew wrought stones to build the house of God.
This {is} my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.
For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified {are} all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
Thou shalt in any wise set {him} king over thee, whom the LORD thy God shall choose: {one} from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which {is} not thy brother.
Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed;
Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we {are} thy bone and thy flesh.
Thus saith the LORD, The heaven {is} my throne, and the earth {is} my footstool: where {is} the house that ye build unto me? and where {is} the place of my rest?
And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that {is} in thine heart; for the LORD {is} with thee.

But the LORD was wroth with me for your sakes, and would not hear me: and the LORD said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter.
Now therefore arise, O LORD God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.
The glory of Lebanon shall come unto thee, the fir tree, the pine tree, and the box together, to beautify the place of my sanctuary; and I will make the place of my feet glorious.
Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in:
And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more defile, {neither} they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, nor by the carcases of their kings in their high places.

Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that {is} in thine heart; for God {is} with thee.
Who found favour before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.
And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God:
And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:
Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made {them} other five talents.
She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.
And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom his spirit made willing, {and} they brought the LORD'S offering to the work of the tabernacle of the congregation, and for all his service, and for the holy garments.
